A Look Ahead At The Week’s Art&Seek Picks

by Gila Espinoza 12 Dec 2018 1:30 AM

Mark your calendars. There are some great Art&Seek picks for the coming week.

CTA TBD

Even if you do not partake in traditional holiday-type festivities, no reason to say “Bah, humbug” to going out. The Art&Seek calendar is chock-full of events for you to mull over.  Check out our list below for some ideas. We’re sure you’ll find something to add to your to-do list this week. You just have to, dare I say it, believe.

Wednesday

Country singer Jason Eady performs traditional country tunes about heartbreak, drinking and letting go of the past. See him along with Rob Ickes and Trey Hensly at Fort Worth Live.

Dallas’ The Wild Detectives hosts Denton poets Trista Edwards and Bess Whitby. Whitby is also a member of the literary collective, and Art&Seek Spotlight artist, Spiderweb Salon. Check them out as part of tonight’s installment of the poetry series, Inner Moonlight.

Thursday

Fort Worth’s Amphibian Stage has a one-man show about self-reflection . . . and Batman. Written and performed by Jason O’Connell the show gives the audience insight into how one’s “inner-geek” can guide and inspire in good times and bad. Don’t miss the comedy “The Dork Knight.”

On the other side of downtown Fort Worth, Artspace111’s current exhibition “Vecinos” deals with immigration and dignity. See the illustrations by the late Ron Tomlinson tonight at the gallery’s Some Thursday Happy Hour.

Friday

In Fort Worth, Stage West takes a fresh look at the Dickens’ seasonal tale of redemption from the point of view of the other partner in the firm Scrooge & Marley. See the funny and irreverent story of “Jacob Marley’s Christmas Carol” by Tom Mula.

Tonight is the first of four Turtle Creek Chorale performances at Moody Performance Hall in Dallas. Don’t miss their Christmas concert “Shimmer and Shine” filled with heartwarming favorites and of course, the chorale’s signature humor.

Saturday/Sunday

On Saturday, the Orpheus Chamber Singers perform at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in Dallas. The group will perform holiday classics, dramatic villancicos from Latin America, and Franz Beibl’s ‘Ave Maria.’

Also on Saturday, don’t miss the opening reception of “Chameleon” at Fort Works Art. The exhibition features work by glass sculptor Austin Fields and painter Jay Wilkinson.

On Sunday, stop by The Wild Detectives for Kids in the Cliff. They’ll be reading “Last Stop On the Reindeer Express,” a story about sending holiday messages.

And throughout the weekend, Jubilee Theatre stages “The First Noel.” The musical puts a modern spin on “A Christmas Carol” with gospel and pop tunes and re-imagined holiday classics. It’s on stage through Dec. 23.

Monday

In Grapevine, the Palace Arts Center screens the original “Miracle on 34th Street.” The classic holiday film tells the story of a lawyer and a little girl must prove that a man claiming to be Santa Claus is the real thing.

The Dallas Winds are playing Yuletide favorites at the Meyerson Symphony Center. The family-friendly show features sing-alongs, organ music, and even some storytelling.

Tuesday

In Fort Worth, the Texas Boys Choir perform at Broadway Baptist Church. The program will feature selections from a wide range of styles and traditions, both sacred and secular, from the Renaissance to the present day.

The Annual ‘La Virgen de Guadalupe’ art exhibition has returned to the Oak Cliff Cultural Center. See imaginative works of art that pay tribute to the “dark-skinned Madonna.” It’s on view until Jan. 3.
