A Look Ahead At The Week’s Art&Seek Picks

Mark your calendars. There are some great Art&Seek picks for the coming week.

In the mood to check out the latest and greatest in the North Texas art scene but wondering where to start?  You’re in luck! The Art&Seek team has been busily compiling these picks we think are worth checking out this week. Whether it’s a new play, a concert, or a gallery opening we’ve got you covered.

Wednesday

The Irving Arts Center has paintings, sculptures, glass, clay, and collage works by twenty-two artists from across Texas. The creations are all related to the game of chess. See the exhibition “Playing With Chess.” Through Nov. 25.

Galleria Dallas hosts a lecture series in conjunction with their exhibition “Age of the Supermodel: The Photographs of Donna DeMari.” Swing by today to hear Annette Becker, Director of the UNT Texas Fashion Collection: “Haute Couture in the Age Of The Supermodel.”

Thursday

“Rider on White Horse” by Susan Harrington

Don’t miss the opening of the exhibition “Sequel” at the Moudy Gallery on the campus at TCU. The group exhibition features work by Susan Harrington, Shafaq Ahmad, Stephen Battle, Harmony Padgett, and Art&Seek Spotlight Artist Devon Nowlin.

UNT’s Department of English hosts author Eduardo C. Corral. The poet writes about current day issues like immigration and was recently featured on PBS Newshour. The reading happens at Sage Hall on the UNT campus.

Art&Seek’s Anne Bothwell joins a panel of art advocates to discuss arts journalism at Dallas’ Sammons Center for the Arts tonight. 

Friday

The Crow Museum of Asian Art hosts Artist 2 Artist tonight. The event offers local artists and art enthusiasts the opportunity to meet each other, create, and collaborate. Artist Jacob Hashimoto will be on hand to discuss his newest site-specific installation and exhibition “Clouds and Chaos.”

Tonight at the Kimbell Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks hosts a State of the Arts panel discussion about Fort Worth’s emerging creative class. The group includes Spotlight Artists Fort Worth Blackhouse and others.

Saturday/Sunday

Saturday’s you’re last chance to capture the “spirit of the west” at Lewisville’s Western Days Festival. Head to the Wayne Ferguson Plaza for a parade, music, dancing and more.

On Sunday, Texas soul singer Tatiana Mayfield performs with the UTA Jazz Orchestra at Arlington’s Levitt Pavilion.

Revisit the meteoric rise of R&B singer Lauryn Hill as she performs her groundbreaking album, “The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill” at Irving’s Toyota Music Factory, Sunday evening.

Throughout the weekend, Dallas’ Theatre Three stages the musical “Once.” The regional production is a knockout with amazing performances.

Monday

TCU School of music is hosting the Festival of American Song at the PepsiCo Recital Hall. Head to the Fort Worth campus tonight for a concert featuring songs by renowned composer and pianist, Jake Heggie.

SMU’s contemporary music ensemble, SYZYGY, presents “Ancient Voices of Children.” You can hear this landmark chamber work tonight at Caruth Auditorium on the SMU campus in Dallas.

Tuesday

Three former Cliburn Piano Competition finalists are performing with the Fort Worth Symphony tonight. See them perform an all-Rachmaninov program at Bass Performance Hall.

The Dallas Theater Center reimagines the comedic drama “Steel Magnolias,” the play about the bonds forged by southern women, is performed by a diverse cast at the Wyly Theater.
