Art&Seek Jr: Say Goodbye To The Humdrum And Try Something New With These Events

by Therese Powell 20 Feb 2018 7:00 AM

Explore new things with one of these picks from the Junior.

CTA TBD

Have the Winter Olympics got the tinies itchy to trying something new? There’s nothing like a man hurling down an icy tunnel that inspires a break from the same-old, same-old to give something a little more thrilling a whirl. The luge might be a little tricky given the lack of icy tunnels in our neck of the woods, but that doesn’t mean you can’t explore other flights of fancy.

Check out these picks for some out of the ordinary fun with the kiddos.

Celebrate science and the contributions engineers make at Fort Worth Museum of Science and History’s Engineers Week event. The super smart people at the museum are ready to show the kiddos just how fun science, technology, engineering, and math can be. If you need another reason to go; this Saturday is also Girls and Engineering Day. Girl scientists can meet women engineers who are practicing in the field, learn about electrical energy safety with Oncor, dissect electronics with Lockheed Martin, and take on different challenges throughout the museum.

Another girl-centric activity happening on Saturday is C.R. Smith Museum’s 2nd Annual Girls Soar Aviation Day. Girls 8-16 can meet women in the aviation field, engineer a powered plane and take part in wind tunnel testing.

Join Josey Records on Saturday for a day of record digging and vinyl education. Mini Djs can go a record scavenger hunt, take a try on the drum machine, learn how records are made, and take part in a breakdancing workshop.

Get wet and wild this Saturday at the Parr Branch of the Plano Public Library when you out if you have what it takes to build a waterslide. Kids of all ages can build miniature watercoasters out of everyday household supplies. This is a free event, but supplies and space are limited. Free tickets are required and will be distributed 30 minutes before the program starts at 3 p.m.

The Maker Faire is sort of convention of curious people who enjoy sharing what they like to do and learning from others. Everyone from engineers to artists to scientists to crafters is in attendance to show hobbies, experiments, and projects. It’s a one of a kind event that showcases makers of all types. The Greatest Show (& Tell) on Earth happens this Saturday at the Denton Civic Center.
