Concerts, Benefits – Even Free Chocolate – To Help Harvey Victims

Restaurants, venues, and more across DFW are holding special deals in support of Texas’ flood relief efforts

North Texas may be miles away from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, but local businesses are eager to lend a helping hand and raise funds in support of flood recovery efforts.

We’ve compiled some of the events being held in DFW, and we’ll update this post with more as they are announced. Reach out if you know of one we’ve missed.

Ongoing

The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is donating single-ticket sales from concerts of Mahler’s Symphony No. 5 — with Jaap van Zweden leading — on Sept. 14 and 17.

The Nasher Sculpture Center is offering free admission to all evacuees displaced by the hurricane. The offer will continue as long as the Kay Bailey Hutchinson Convention Center remains open as a rescue site.

Cane Rosso founder Jay Jerrier announced a “Year of Pizza” raffle. Buy a $50 raffle ticket for a chance to get a free pizza every week for an entire year. All of the proceeds will go to flood relief efforts.

The American Association for State and Local History is collecting funds in support of cultural institutions in the affected areas from Aug. 29-Sept. 15. The organization will donate the funds collected at their annual meeting in Austin next week.

Dallas’ Kessler Theater has started a GoFundMe page, and it hopes to raise $17,500. The money collected will be used to help people in the service industry and to provide meals for first responders.

PAST EVENTS

Tuesday, August 29

Get a slice at Cane Rosso. KERA News reports that the pizzeria will give 100 percent of sales made at its Deep Ellum location to Houston organizations supporting flood recovery. The event starts at 5 p.m. tonight.

RBC in Deep Ellum has whipped up a “Houston Strong” benefit concert tonight at 9 p.m. with local DJs: Carlyle, Junk Food, Run DMT, M.E. Swank, and thejohnstewart. This 21+ event is free with a donation, and all proceeds will go to Houston’s flood recovery efforts.

Take your post-work cooldown to Craft and Growler. From 6 p.m. to close, the Dallas bar will be donating $2 from every beer sold to people affected by the hurricane.

The Cowboys are hosting a telethon on their official TV station, KTVT, from 4 – 7 p.m. Funds raised will go toward supporting the American Red Cross and The Salvation Army in Houston and the surrounding area.

Nora, an Afghan restaurant in Dallas, is donating 25% of dinner sales Tuesday to the American Red Cross.

Wednesday, August 30

The Eberhard, an eatery located in the Knox-Henderson area of Dallas, is donating a portion of sales made between 4 – 10 p.m. to flood relief efforts. The restaurant will also be accepting donations for underwear and socks, food, toiletries, and baby products like diapers and formula.

Yoga N Da Hood is hosting a free yoga class at Oak Cliff Aikiki in Dallas at 6 p.m. They’ll be accepting monetary donations, which will go toward American Red Cross of Texas.

Thursday, August 31

Inspired by Cane Rosso’s efforts, sister bars Double Wide and Single Wide are donating 100 percent of their sales to the flood relief effort Thursday.

If you’re headed to The Bomb Factory tonight for FREE! The Ticket Fight Night, bring along any of the following items: underwear, socks, moving boxes, diapers, baby wipes, toiletries, feminine hygiene products and nonperishable food including baby formula.

Friday, September 1

Houston-based musician Bradley Dean Whyte is a last-minute addition to the Fort Worth Fringe Fest this weekend. Texas Nonprofit Theatres, the organization behind the festival, has offered Whyte the total amount of the box office for his performance to help him help his family with their evacuation expenses. He’s performing at 5:45 p.m. at the W.E. Scott Theatre in Fort Worth.

With a $10 donation, you can catch local country singer Dustin Barksdale at Opening Bell Coffee in Dallas. All of the proceeds will go toward American Red Cross of Texas, and the shop hopes to raise $1000.

Interabang Books is donating 20 percent of its weekend sales, both online and in-store, to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund

Several businesses are holding a donation drive from 6-10 p.m. in Old Town Lewisville. Cavalli Pizza, Prohibition Chicken, Chasin’ Tail BBQ, and Kristi G’s Cupcakes will be providing food (for a $10 suggested cash donation), and Hightower Band will play some tunes at Whitherspoon Distillery.

Saturday, September 2

The Dallas Running Club will be collecting old running shoes at their Breakfast Bash 5-mile run. They’re sending them down to the Gulf Coast Shoes to provide footwear for people when clean-up begins. Shoes need to be clean with the laces tied.

TREES in Dallas will be holding a donation drive tonight ahead of The Invasion Car Show.

Sunday, September 3

Dallas Comedy House is hosting a Hometown Houston show, with 100 percent of ticket sales made Sunday going to Dallas County Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD). Additionally, the DCH is offering free admission throughout September to people displace by Hurricane Harvey.

Wednesday, September 6

Central Track is putting together a city-wide fundraiser, called #DTX4HTX, and they hope to recruit as many Dallas-area bars, restaurants, and clubs as possible. Participating businesses will donate 20 percent of their sales on Wednesday to one big fund that’ll be donated to Trusted World charity. Six businesses have already committed including the Black Swan Saloon and Off The Record. More info.

Taboo Lounge in Dallas is holding a happy hour drive starting 5:30 p.m. with items being donated to Trusted World. They’re collecting everything from feminine hygiene products, non-perishable food, underwear, socks, and baby products.

Other Events

Granada Theater in Dallas is accepting donations of canned food and non-perishable items to any upcoming concert.

All 13 Snappy Salads locations in North Texas are holding weeklong fundraiser, ending Sept. 4. The restaurant chain will match donations up to $10,000, with proceeds going to the American Red Cross.

Kate Weiser Chocolate is accepting donations of bottled water at their Trinity Groves and NorthPark locations. You have until Friday afternoon, when they’ll take the donations to the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center. For your generosity, the chocolatier will give you a free 2-piece box of chocolates.

The AT&T Performing Arts Center is offering evacuees staying in any city-operated emergency shelter to two upcoming shows: the MOMIX dance group and rock band Colt & the Old 45s. TITAS Presents MOMIX takes place Thursday at 8:00 p.m. in the Winspear Opera House, and the band will perform Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Wyly Theatre. The Center is providing evacuees with complimentary parking as well. Vouchers for the shows are being handed out at shelters, but the Center is encouraging early arrival as vouchers don’t ensure entry.
