A Quick Look At Art&Seek’s Reporting
- Drugs, immigration and gangs – that’s all we seem to hear about from the Texas/Mexico border. But a couple of North Texas artists have formed a project called Tierra Firme which aims to inform people about the more positive aspects of the borderlands. In the most recent story from our Artist Spotlight series, we look into how these two women use indigenous art to change perspectives.

- Filmmaker Ya’Ke Smith’s movies have for years dealt with social issues. His work brings to the forefront topics that we’d normally like to elude. And now he’s got a new web series that follows a young woman struggling to re-enter society after prison. “The Big Screen” team caught up with him to find out about the many real-life sources he pulled from to make “The Beginning and Ending of Everything.”
- Last week, many in the North Texas arts scene were surprised to learn that Micheal Auping – the chief curator for the Fort Worth Modern Art Museum – had retired. Art&Seek’s Jerome Weeks spoke with Auping (who is currently living in Southern California) to find out what made the man who brought some that institution’s landmark shows (Frank Stella, Philip Guston and Ed Ruscha) retire.
