KXT Live Session with Houndmouth

by Dane Walters 25 Nov 2015 11:43 AM

A 10-camera production – a new milestone for our Live Sessions – and a heck of a show.

Back in 2009, The KXT Live Sessions kicked off with this performance by Sarah Jaffe.  Pre-recorded the day before the station launched, it was a dry run, if you will, for an ambitious Live Sessions schedule to celebrate the new station: one live video performance a day for the first two weeks on air (Monday – Friday, this IS public radio, people.)

You can see all of the early videos in chronological order here.

In 2011, Art&Seek and KXT teamed up to create the On The Road Series, where artists perform stripped down versions of their songs out in the real world. This one with Cas Haley performing on the back of a pedicab in east Austin during SXSW is still one of my favorites. The same year it launched, the series won a Silver W3 Award.

Now, 6 years and over 2,000,000 total Youtube views later, the Live Sessions are still going strong. Before its recent anniversary show at the Granada Theater, KXT welcomed the band Houndmouth into the KERA television studios for a robust 10-camera production that streamed live to the world for the first time on the new Public Radio Partnership VuHaus. Thursday’s performance marked the third time the sessions had been produced in KERA’s television studio.  (The first two were Mayer Hawthorne  in 2012 and Washed Out in 2013.)
