The voices behind The Big Screen – KERA’s Stephen Becker and Chris Vognar of The Dallas Morning News – are going back half-a-century in film and working their way forward to illustrate the best in cinematic storytelling and why we love the movies.
Becker and Vognar will discuss the use of montage, editing, perspective and other storytelling devices in film, and they’ll show various clips to show the masterful employment of those techniques. Audiences will see clips from the ’50s, ’60s, ’90s and the ’00s — featuring works by Alfred Hitchcock, Ingmar Bergman, Martin Scorsese and other prolific and profound directors.
“Our hope is that the audience will walk away with a better understanding of the language of film that’ll lead to even more discussion of one of our favorite pasttimes,” Becker says.
The event, “Why We Love The Movies!” is free and open to the public. It’s taking place tonight at 7 at Highland Park United Methodist Church.
The talk is part of the Rejebian Summer Series.
