Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself. Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

It’s been a pretty mild summer so far. Sure it’s hot (and humid thanks to all that rain), but normally but this time of the year our temperatures have been well established at the century mark for weeks. We have been lucky for the cool-ish respite. About now is when we all resign ourselves to the air-conditioned indoors and curtail outside activities until Texas-OU weekend rolls around –well, everyone, that is, except that one crazy guy who jogs down McKinney Avenue at high noon in spite of the soaring temperatures.

Of course, not all outside activities are off limits. As everyone in these parts knows, the best way to beat the Texas heat is to take a dip in a frosty pool. Hands down, there’s nothing more refreshing. But hold on there Bub, just when you thought the pool couldn’t get any cooler some genius came up with the brilliant idea of adding a MOVIE to the mix. That’s right, DIVE In movies–screening a film at the pool– are the makings of some real summertime fun.

Here are are some flicks that are coming to your local ce-ment pond.

Grab the floaties and head to Bedford Splash Aquatic Center on Friday for Flick and Float. You and the tinies can enjoy super sweet Paddington on a giant 16×21 foot screen while you float under the stars. The movie is included in the Splash admission, so keep those bracelets on, otherwise it’s $5 per person at the door.

The nice folks at NRH2O Family Water Park in North Richland Hills must love irony because they’re showing the ultimate “don’t go in the water” film for their outdoor movie event. That’s right, Jaws in all of it’s glory (or gory, depending on how you look at it) will be playing from a suspended screen over the wave pool this Friday night. If sitting in the water while watching a shark movie is too realistic for you, you can watch it from the safety of the beach. Movies will run every Friday at NRH2O through August 7 and are included with admission.

Everything is awesome at Fort Worth’s Forest Park Pool this Saturday night. Their Dive In movie event starts with a DJ spinning fun, kid-friendly summer tunes. After the sun sets, you and the family can kick back and lounge in the water while watching The Lego Movie on the poolside big-screen. If that isn’t awesome enough for you, proceeds from the event will go towards scholarships for city-sponsored swimming lessons, as well basic water safety lessons through the Learn to Swim scholarship program.

Float in the pool or drift down the lazy river while you catch a movie under the stars at the Aquatic Center at Frisco Athletic Center. Catch Big Hero 6 on July 17, or The Lego Movie on Aug. 7.

If you’re looking for a real bargain, be sure to check out the dive in movie at Samuell Grand Pool in East Dallas. You and the family can enjoy a movie under the stars for just $2 a person for adults and $1 for kids under 12. Big Hero 6 will be showing Friday, July 17.

Speaking of Samuell Grand Pool, another out of the ordinary water event you definitely won’t want to miss is the Cardboard Boat Races that happen this Friday evening. Six person teams will show their teamwork and creativity as they construct a boat, raft or some sort of floating watercraft made entirely of cardboard, and then navigate it across Samuell Grand Pool. Judging will be based on design/creativity, team spirit and speed. There will even be a Titanic Award for the best of those that don’t finish.
