Congratulations to Darren Plank of Cathlamet, WA, the winner of the Flickr Photo of the Week contest. Darren is a first time winner of our little contest. He follows last week’s winner, Dan Huntley of Carrollton.

If you would like to participate in the Flickr Photo of the Week contest, all you need to do is upload your photo to our Flickr group page. It’s fine to submit a photo you took earlier than the current week, but we are hoping that the contest will inspire you to go out and shoot something fantastic this week to share with Art&Seek users. If the picture you take involves a facet of the arts, even better. The contest week will run from Tuesday to Monday, and the Art&Seek staff will pick a winner on Friday afternoon. We’ll notify the winner through FlickrMail (so be sure to check those inboxes) and ask you to fill out a short survey to tell us a little more about yourself and the photo you took. We’ll post the winners’ photo on Tuesday.

Title of photo: Eloise the Basket Case

Equipment: Canon EOS Rebel XTI using Canon 10-18mm lens

More about the photo: Our daughter, Eloise, is not shy in front of a camera which made taking this picture that much easier. My wife, mother-in-law, and I were in the living room of our house watching Eloise get her last few wiggles out before bed time. With her last bit of energy, Eloise climbed into an empty clothes basket nearby and started making faces towards me. I pointed the camera at her and took a few different pictures. With each exposure she changed her expression or the angle of her head a little bit. What caught me eye and led to this image was the way Eloise was bending the clothes basket. The basket flexed in such a way that it worked to focus attention on her face. The fold in the bottom foreground drew my eyes towards her face. The last rays of the sun coming through the window gave the image a soft and compelling light. Though originally in color, I preferred the mood black and white gave the picture. Thanks for reading and voting this the picture the Flickr Photo of the Week.
