The Lone Star Film Festival kicks off this Wednesday night. The opening program for the Fort Worth film fest will be the world premiere of the home grown documentary, Virtuosity. In 2013, thirty young wistful artists from around the world competed in the Fourteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth. In the 90-minute documentary, viewers see the the excitement and disappointments the competitors experience as the 17-day music contest draws to its emotional and inevitable conclusion – the awarding of the Gold Medal to one participant.
The doc is directed by Christopher Wilkinson, whose writing credits include Ali (2001), Nixon (1995) and Copying Beethoven (2006). Producer Lori Miller produced They Came To Play, the documentary which tells the inspirational stories of the participants of the Cliburn’s 2007 International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. Both Wilkinson and Miller, as well as the 2013 Cliburn winner, will be in attendance for the event.
This special screening of Virtuosity at Bass Performance Hall, on Nov. 5, brings together three stalwart organizations of the Fort Worth arts community – The Cliburn, the Lone Star Film Festival, and Performing Arts Fort Worth. Tickets are free to the public and are general admission seating. Tickets can be ordered online at Cliburn.org with two tickets per order.
If you don’t catch Virtuosity now you’ll have to wait until next year to see it. That is when KERA TV plans to schedule the broadcast premiere on PBS, June 19 at 9 p.m. CDS
