Local favorite Sarah Jaffe has released a new song called “Lover Girl.” However, the song isn’t really new. She tells Interview Magazine that she had written the song nine years ago when she was fresh out of high school. Jaffe wasn’t fully satisfied with the track, so she never released it. She went to Marfa last summer to start writing for her upcoming album, and she created a loop to give new life to the track. Her album, Don’t Disconnect, comes out on August 19.

• Thrillist has 99 problems with Dallas. The publication may love Texas cuisine, but Big D? Not so much. The list mostly comprises of grievances against parking, driving, the Dallas Cowboys, and suburbanites, so take it with a grain of salt.
• Yesterday’s rains quenched some area lakes, like Lake Ray Roberts, but it will take a lot more rain to give relief to other North Texas lakes, such as Lake Lavon in Collin County. Denise Hickey with the North Texas Municipal Water District tells CBS 11: “The rain showers in Allen and Plano, they don’t affect Lake Lavon…we really need to have several days of really heavy rain events. It would’ve been nice if the 10 inches that Valley View had received overnight had actually rained in McKinney.” The National Weather Service reports Valley View and Alvord received the most rain from yesterday’s showers, with rain totals of more than 10 inches. And in other good news, the storms helped bring DFW Airport to a new record low: 66 degrees.
• The Mary Kay convention will turn downtown Dallas pink, but it has some restaurant owners griping. The convention pumps about $32 million into the local economy, according to the Dallas Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, but significantly less cash goes into waiters’ pockets. They tell CultureMap that many convention-goers are lousy tippers. Mary Kay spokesman Crayton Webb sympathized with the restaurants, but he says even attending the convention can be a financial burden for some women. “Some have just started their businesses,” he says. “They are coming on their own dime and their own time. They’re trying to figure out how to do the seminar and still be economical.”
• Hi-ho, hi-ho, it’s off to the auction block we go. A 1937 billboard for Disney’s animated classic Snow White and the Seven Dwarves will be up for auction in Dallas, the Associated Press reports. The 20-by-nine-foot billboard was used to promote the film in England, and all but one of the 12 panels that make up the billboard is the original. Heritage Auctions tells the AP it’s expected to sell for about $10,000.
