Art&Seek Jr: 5 Hippity Hoppity Easter Bunny Happenings

by Therese Powell 8 Apr 2014 10:00 PM

It’s Wabbit season! Check out the Junior’s picks of ways to catch up with Easter Bunny this weekend.

CTA TBD

Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

Last weekend the KERA/KXT/Art&Seek gang participated in ArtsPark at NorthPark Center. It was great meeting everyone who came out to say hello and chatting it up with our friends from the other arts organizations in our area, but I have to say the best part of the day for me was escorting our special guest Daniel Tiger around ArtsPark. For those of you who don’t know, Daniel Tiger is the star of the PBS animated series Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. He’s also, without doubt, a rock star among the preschool set.  To the adults at the event, he was just some poor guy stuck in a cat costume for the day, but to the wee ones, well, he was the real deal and boy did they show their enthusiasm. Olaf the snowman would be jealous of the number of warm hugs given to Daniel on Tiger on Saturday. That’s was I love about preschoolers; they believe in fairies, and unicorns and all things magical. You can see it in their eyes when they come face to face with one of their heroes. They really believe with every fiber of their tiny little bodies the 6-foot cat in a red sweater and sneakers isn’t just some guy in a costume, that’s Daniel the Tiger himself in the flesh.

Of course the Easter Bunny falls into the category of all things magical. Here are a few ways for you and the tinies to catch up with that wascally wabbit this weekend.

If your tot-lette is on the shy side, or maybe just isn’t that keen on costumed characters, the Easter Bunny Story Time at the Halton City Public Library might be just the ticket. Little ones can listen to an bunny-themed story and then afterwards, if they like, they can say hello to EB and snap a picture. The fun happens this Friday at 11 a.m.

Our dog would love to meet the Easter Bunny, but not for the same reason as the kids. Your pooch can hunt eggs, not rabbits at this Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at Heritage Park in Sachse at a special Doggie Bone Hunt . Dogs participating in the hunt will be divided into groups based on weight and will be required to be on a leash at all times. You can also enter your furry friend into a best dressed or cutest contest, or snap a pic of Fido with the Easter Bunny. But wait, don’t go yet! Be sure to stick around for the Flashlight Egg Hunt after the Dog Bone Hunt. That’s right, grab the flashlight (make sure it has fresh batteries) and join the fun in the dark. Kids ages 5-13 can search for eggs stuffed with candy. The person who finds the golden egg wins a special prize.

Hop on down the bunny-trail this Saturday from 11 to 3 to Bunnyville at the Shops at Willow Bend. The itty bitties can enjoy face painting, balloons, carrot planting, spring crafts, balloon creations and, of course, special time on the lap of the Easter Bunny.

Take a trip up in the clouds to meet Mr. E. Bunny at Reunion Tower’s all new, super cool GeO-Deck. The kiddies can get their picture taken with the Bunny while you get to enjoy the amazing views, interactive exhibits, and food. Sounds like a good deal to me. You can take your trip  this Saturday between 11 and 5.

Speaking of kids and bunnies, if you’re wanting some extra cute professional photos of the kids with real bunnies and not the costumed variety, be sure to stop by Marc Robins Photography at NorthPark for Bunny Rabbit Days. I gotta tell ya, the combination of babies and baby rabbits is lethal dose of adorable. You might not be able to stand it.  Marc is located where the Disney Store and Macy’s meet and will be snapping bunny pics until April 19.

Good luck with your rabbit hunting! Next week we’ll hunt eggs!
