When nominations for the 86th Academy Awards were announced today, films with Texas ties were well-represented. Dallas Buyers Club earned six: picture, original screenplay, actor (Matthew McConaughey) supporting actor (Jared Leto), editing and hair and makeup. You might remember that McConaughey and Leto won Golden Globes on Sunday for these same roles.
Also of localish note: Austin’s Richard Linklater was nominated (along wtih Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke) in the adapted screenplay category for Before Midnight. And Cutie and the Boxer, co-directed by Austin’s Zachary Heinzerling, earned a documentary feature nod.
This week, we look at a big day for Dallas Buyers Club and make a few predictions.
