by Anne Bothwell 2 Oct 2013 2:12 PM

Meet the artists whose work will be featured at Expanded Cinema Friday…..

CTA TBD

This week, we’re introducing the artists whose work will be featured across the 23-story facade of the Omni Hotel. It’s Expanded Cinema and the theme is “MultipliCity”.  Join us to watch it at 8 p.m. Friday. Public viewing at Hickory House Barbecue on Industrial. Thanks to curator Mona Kasra for the following info:

Artist: Jenny Vogel (New York, NY)

From: New York

Her piece: “1,001 non-smoking guest rooms”

This is a 3-minute site-specific animation with sound. Individuals walk silently along hotel corridors, slipping into their rooms; they are alone, but the quantity and proximity of their neighbors creates an illusion of intimacy. Siegfried Kracauer describes the Hotel Lobby as an exemplary modern space, a comparison that can still be applied to contemporary cityscapes.

Bio: Jenny Vogel works in video, photography and new media art. Vogel’s art explores the world as viewed through new media technology. She received her MFA from Hunter College (NYC) in 2003. She is a 2005 NYFA fellow in Computer Arts and is currently an Assistant Professor of New Media Art at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Her work has been screened and exhibited in group and solo- shows in numerous locations and galleries: Dallas Museum of Art, TX; Schneider Museum, OR; San Francisco Camerawork, CA; Arnolfini, UK; The Siberia Biennial, Russia; The Swiss Institute, NYC; EFA Gallery, NYC; Kunstwerke, Berlin; PS1 Contemporary Art Center, NYC.
