Who are the artists making work 23 stories high this week?

We’d like to introduce you to some of the folks whose work will be featured on the side of the Omni Hotel Friday night, part of Expanded Cinema’s “MultipliCity”. Her piece: “Untitled (Waves)”

Untitled (Waves) addresses the relationship between water and metropolitan infrastructure. As the planet and our bodies are composed primarily of water, it is an indispensable element that fuels the life force of both natural and urban development. Older cities were founded and expanded along waterways, and rivers and ports continue to connect cities through commerce. Concurrently, environmental changes enacted by the last century of industry have rendered water into an ominous force of destruction. From hurricanes and tsunamis to rising sea levels, this powerful resource has devastated cities across the globe and threatens to annihilate several urban areas in the coming century. Contamination from hydraulic fracking poisons the groundwater, and therefore anything living, in rural areas in order to provide energy to larger municipalities. Displayed on the exterior of the Omni Hotel downtown, these waves present the terrifying beauty of this powerful element that both drives and threatens urban life.

Bio:  Nina Schwanse (born Los Angeles, CA) is a multi-disciplinary artist living and working in New Orleans. She holds a BFA from Cooper Union and an MFA in digital media from The University of New Orleans. Schwanse has been included

in screenings and exhibitions internationally and is a member of Good Children, an artist-run gallery in New Orleans.
