Oscar watchers will do well to make it to this year’s Lone Star Film Festival in Fort Worth. That’s because the fest announced the first batch of films that it will show this year (Nov. 7-10), and there are a number that have shiny trophy aspirations.
Among them are:
- Nebraska, the new black-and-white feature from Alexander Payne. He’s got two Oscars on the shelf – for writing The Descendants and Sideways.
- August: Osage County, the adaptation of Tracy Letts’ Pulitzer Prize-winning play. Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ewan McGregor and Chris Cooper star.
- Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, in which the great Idris Elba plays the former president of South Africa.
In addition to those new films, the festival will show a 50th anniversary screening of Jean-Luc Godard’s Contempt and a 60th anniversary screening of Yasujiro Ozu’s Tokyo Story.
