TALK OF THE TOWN: The Oral Fixation storytelling series is making a move this year to the Winspear Opera House’s Hamon Hall. The first show there (Sept. 30) rounds up stories from the best storytellers from Season 2, which are previewed above.

FOR PETE’S SAKE: Peter and the Starcatcher was a big hit on Broadway, racking up five Tony Awards. It’s making its first swing through North Texas this week at the AT&T Performing Arts Center. And it sounds as if it’s worth a trip over. “This is one of the best shows to make its way down from the New York theater scene in a long time,” Kris Noteboom writes on theaterjones.com. “Audiences won’t be able to help but feel a sense of whimsy and wonder, losing themselves in the fluid action and entertaining characters.” On Front Row, Lindsey Wilson reserves special praise for the set designers’, “unobtrusive yet whimsical choices, which create magical worlds and creatures using seemingly little more than found objects, a sturdy length of rope, and at times even the cast’s own bodies.” But Lawson Taitte saw it as a tale of two halves. “The first act, with its intricate plot points, particularly suffers. The second yields a lot more fun,” he writes on dallasnews.com. Catch it through Sept. 29.

THANKS: North Texas Giving Day was a big, big hit on Thursday. It raised more than $25 million for local non-profits, more than doubling last year’s $10.8 million. Arts organizations were big recipients, as were your ol’ pals here at KERA, which received 1,851 gifts totaling $182,726.  ‘Preciate ya!
