STAGE WEST’S SEASON: Stage West has announced the six shows that will make up its 2013-14 season. But it’s the bonus show on the list that might be the most notable. That’s because the theater is bringing in Theatre Three’s long-running production of Avenue Q Jan. 9-Feb. 16. Among the shows Stage West will produce is Starbright & Vine, the world premiere of a comedy by TCU professor Richard Allen. The new season kicks off Oct. 31 with Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s Rivals; you can check out the complete lineup at theaterjones.com.
BBQ AND BLUES: This weekend, the City of Bedford roles out its annual Bedford Blues & BBQ Festival. The event’s expanded to three days this year and will be headlined by Buddy Guy, John Mayall and Oak Cliff’s Jimmie Vaughan. And even though Vaughan’s been an elite bluesman for plenty of years now, he says sharing a stage with his heroes is still a thrill. “I never even thought I could meet these guys when I was a kid. So to grow up and get to know them and play with them, it’s really been a lot of fun,” Vaughan tells dfw.com. “You do what you do when you are on stage, and then you get home and think, ‘Wow. I just played with Buddy Guy.’ It’s really hard to describe. You don’t want to think about it too much when you’re up there. You just want to enjoy it.”
SCHOOL DAZE AT THE DMA: Got a youngster heading back to school this week? There’s a unlikely place you might want to take ’em for a lesson on the three R’s – the DMA. The museum’s Uncrated blog has posted works of art that involve reading, writing and arithmetic, including a sweet Charles Rohlfs-designed writing desk that would’ve motivated even me to do my homework.
