Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 30 Jul 2013 7:42 AM

Remembering a local actor, fallout from the fake profiles and a local singing sensation on the tube tonight.

CTA TBD

REMEMBERING RYAN: Over the weekend, radio listeners around the area were shocked by Kidd Kraddick’s sudden death. But at the same time, the theater community was mourning the unexpected passing of one of its own. Charles Ryan Roach, an actor who performed on the stages of Theatre Three, WaterTower Theatre, Uptown Players, Stage West, Theatre Arlington, Casa Mañana and others, died Saturday after suffering a stroke Friday night. He was 44. “To say that Ryan Roach will be missed is hardly adequate,” Cathy O’Neal writes on theaterjones.com. “When Ryan came to see a show you were doing, his was the first laugh you heard, and his big, loving bear hug was the last thing you left the theater with after the show.” Funeral arrangements are also posted on the site.

THE FALLOUT: A story in Sunday’s Dallas Morning News about Museum Tower’s use of fake social media profiles has caused quite the stir. Dallas City Council member Scott Griggs, who’s a member of the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System’s board, condemned the tactic. “It’s the wild, wild West. It’s wrong. And even if someone thinks it’s right, it’s not working,” he wrote to his fellow board members. And the DMN‘s editorial board is ready for a shake-up at the top. “A housecleaning is in order at the Dallas Police and Fire Pension System, the tower’s tax-supported owner, starting with administrator Richard Tettamant and anyone complicit in the counterfeit Internet campaign,” the board writes today.

THE NEXT ROUND: If you’ve been keeping up with America’s Got Talent, you know that Forte Opera Trio – featuring 2014 FWOpera Festival performer Sean Panikkar – is looking strong. Panikkar even received high praise from Howard Stern. So you’ll definitely want to tune in tonight (NBC, 8 p.m.) to see how the group does in the quarter finals.
