DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland is back onstage at Hip Pocket Theatre. The company last produced the show 10 years ago. So how’s it holding up? Pretty well, according to the reviews. “This is a family-friendly Hipster evening,” Jan Farrington writes on theaterjones.com. “There were plenty of children in the opening night audience, and they stayed in their seats, wide-eyed and attentive. But while Hip Pocket is the best kind of ‘artisanal’ theater, hand-crafted and down home, there’s an artistic point of view here that’s as sophisticated as any grownup could want.” Mark Lowry also liked it – particularly Lake Simon’s direction. “Hip Pocket might have a new and bigger home, and the show has been scaled back in some areas — there’s only one musician instead of four, for instance,” he writes on dfw.com. “But Simons’ penchant for simple, visual storytelling with physical theater techniques has grown both clearer and more vibrant.” You’ve got ’til July 28 to catch it.
