Five years ago today,  KERA launched Art&Seek’s website and radio reporting team dedicated to diving into North Texas’ rich arts scene.   Since then, we’ve created more than 8,000 radio stories and reviews, videos, and blog posts, introducing North Texans to the artists, performances, educators, spaces and works that knit together our cultural community.

All of this comes from a team of dedicated journalists and producers.

Stephen Becker brings you daily arts news updates from around North Texas, files radio reports and produces The Big Screen podcast and radio report with Chris Vognar from The Dallas Morning News. He’s also the guy behind our Afternoon Delights AND he oversees our Flickr Photo of the Week.

Jerome Weeks delivers award-winning arts criticism and features here on the site and on KERA FM.

My how we’ve changed. A homepage from 2009.

Therese Powell and Gila Espinoza ride herd on the mammoth Art&Seek calendar, and create our weekly e-newsletter. Therese also brings you Art&Seek Jr. every week. And Gila administers the weekly Big Deal giveaways.

Shelley Kenneavy is the editor, producer and voice of the weekday Art&Seek calendar on KERA FM and KXT 91.7.

Dane Walters shoots, produces and edits video for Art&Seek, as well as KXT and KERA.

And I’m the director of all this – which means I spend a lot of time trying to make sure all these folks have what they need to do what they do so well.

What’s ahead? Well, we’re thinking about just that very thing right now. But I can tell you that arts journalism, along with education and science/health/technology are the three main content areas KERA will focus on in the years to come.  That’s great news.

And of course, we’re celebrating. Come join us at Summer Cut Saturday. In addition to great music,  the Art&Seek Village  will feature the work of local artisans.  And we’ll all be there at the KXT/Art&Seek table.  Stop by and say happy birthday.
