Downtown street life: are we there yet? Plus playing footsie at the DMA and a Dallas funny girl gets an award.

CTA TBD

Popular Park:  After hundreds of millions in investment, has Klyde Warren Park helped revitalize downtown? The Dallas Morning News poses the question (paywall) and says early indications are that it has helped. The Omni Hotel, the Perot Museum, and the Dallas Museum of Art’s free admission are among others drawing new crowds downtown.  But street life is still lacking. “We’re seeing the potential of downtown as a center of culture, but it’s at a beginning stage because we don’t have cafes, we don’t have retail lining Flora Street,” says Maxwell Anderson, director of the DMA.

Playing Footsie:  The DMA’s Uncrated blog has developed a foot fetish. You might too, when you check out these gorgeous photos of feet  – just the feet – of some of the works in  The Body Beautiful in Ancient Greece: Masterworks from the British Museum.

Funny Girl:  Belated congratulations to Dallas Observer columnist Alice Laussade, who won a James Beard Award for Humor Writing last week. Her piece “The Cheap Bastard’s Ultimate Guide to Eating Like a Total Cheap Bastard” was what won the judges over, proving that even fancy foodies can appreciate the joys of a sloppy burger or a Meat & 3.
