April’s shaping up to be a busy month for arts lovers.
It’s Dallas Jazz Appreciation Month. It’s Dallas Architecture Month. Plus, the city’s Big Read program, the Dallas Art Fair and the Dallas International Film Festival have all claimed a piece of the calendar. April 7-14 has even been declared Dallas Arts Week.
Wednesday afternoon at City Hall, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings acknowledged the epic month ahead. But he also says there’s more work to do.
“The question in the discussion is: How do we as a city attract more young artists to this city,” he said. “Because we’ve got some great edifices. We’ve got Masesto Jaap, who just took Europe by storm with the Dallas Symphony. But I want thousands of artists, musicians, playwrights, filmmakers to come to Dallas.”
The mayor also unveiled the details of Dallas Arts Week. You can learn all about the social media component – and how you can win some cool prizes for participation – on the Dallas Art Week Facebook page.
