Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

As we were returning home from southeast Texas this past weekend I was reminded how beautiful Texas is in the spring. I nearly gave poor Rose whiplash as I pulled the car off the road when I spied a glorious field of blue bonnets just outside of College Station. The resulting pictures were totally worth it.

We Texans know we’d better make the most of these perfect weather days. We’re only too aware that the blistering summer heat is just around the corner.

Celebrate nature this Saturday by heading to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary for the spring family festival. This fun event will be packed with all sorts of out-doorsy activities for the whole family. You can spend the day listening to live concerts, participating in an interactive raptor presentation, trying out a canoe, or just shopping for some plants at the garden sale.

If you live in Fort Worth, drag the kids out of bed early on Saturday and join in your neighbors to help keep the city beautiful at the 28th annual Cowtown Great American Cleanup. You can register and pick up supplies on Friday from 8 a.m.–noon at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center at 818 Missouri Ave. in Fort Worth. The first 4,000 volunteers will be provided with cleanup supplies, a T-shirt, gloves, trash bags and lunch voucher for Earth Fort Worth.

After the clean-up, plan to attend Fort Worth’s Earth Party from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Sundance Square’s Gateway Lot, located on Fifth Street between Throckmorton and Houston streets. There will be family fun, music by the band Vocal Trash, educational booths and activities, prizes and food for cleanup volunteers.

On Sunday, from 1 – 5 p.m. be sure to stop by Fair Park’s Cotton Bowl Stadium for the 7th annual Dog Bowl. Yes, I know this is a blog for kid’s activities, but honestly, what could be more fun than seeing Dallas’ most historic football field transformed into a super-sized dog park?

Activities for Fido include: a pet/owner look-alike contest (I’m not sure I’d want to win this one), giveaways, exhibits, doggie portraits, canine crafts and you can also get Rover micro-chipped or vaccinated. Best of all, if you’re looking for a new addition to the family, you and the kids can check out local dog clubs, rescue groups and animal welfare organizations with adoptable dogs at the Woofstock “tail” gating zone outside the entrance gate of the Cotton Bowl.

The photo ops for all these events will go nicely with your blue bonnet pics.
