BEING BARRETT: There’s one name that’s got the local theater scene abuzz these days: Barrett Nash. She’s currently starring in Second Thought Theatre’s My Name is Rachel Corrie, about the American peace activist who was killed by a bulldozer in the Gaza Strip. And it’s hard to imagine a performance receiving better reviews. “Rarely have I seen an actor connect with an audience the way that Nash does, particularly in this role,” M. Lance Lusk writes on Front Row. “She masters every line, finishing many with a grace note of perfect silence floating in the air for emphasis.” Martha Heimberg begins her theaterjones.com review by writing, “Barrett Nash smiles, pleads, flirts, shouts, writhes, trembles and utterly seduces the audience in My Name is Rachel Corrie.” And you can add Lawson Taitte to the cheering section. “At the end of the show, it’s hard to tell whether you have been bewitched by Rachel Corrie or by Barrett Nash,” he writes in his dallasnews.com review. Sounds as if you’d better get thee to the Kalita Humphrey’s Theater by March 30.

DAVID GOES DISNEY: Dallas filmmaker David Lowery and his writing partner, Toby Halbrooks, have been hired by Disney to write the script for Pete’s Dragon. It’ll be a freshening up of the 1977 film that starred Mickey Rooney and Shelley Winters. Already this makes quite a year for Lowery, whose Ain’t Them Bodies Saints debuted at Sundance and will be released in August. More on the Disney gig is at deadlines.com.
