Art&Seek Jr. is one mom‘s quest to find activities to end the seemingly endless chorus of the “I’m Bored Blues” while having fun herself.  Impossible you say? Check back on Tuesdays for kid-friendly events that are fun for adults, too.

Last night, Rose listened to the nightly weather forecast for any positive sign that we’d have enough of the white stuff to close the schools the following day. I admire her hopeful optimism, but sadly it’s looking as if it will be another winter lacking in the snow department. Even though snowmen and sledding are out, the blustery weather tells me it’s still a wee bit early to put on the sun screen and head outdoors. This weekend is a great opportunity to embrace the last gasp of winter and enjoy a few of inside activities before spring comes calling:

Nothing takes the chill off like a little inspiration. Kick off Women’s History month with your older children on Sunday at the Southwest Regional branch of the Fort Worth library. Storyteller Tonya Fennell’s, American Aviatrix presentation will tell kids all about women’s contributions in the field on aviation. If you miss Tonya on Sunday, she’ll be at several other branches of the Fort Worth library throughout March.

Too many arm-pit symphonies in your house? Now’s your chance for you and the tinies to check out a concert you’ll both enjoy. The Lewisville Lake Symphony presents the classic Peter and the Wolf on Sunday at the Frederick P. Herring Recreation Center. Dancers from LakeCities Ballet Theatre help tell the story of Peter, who along with his animals friends  sets out to catch a nasty wolf. Kids can enjoy the show on gym mats in front of the action. Don’t worry, there are chairs in the back for the adults. After the concert there will be an instrument petting zoo, where the wee ones can try out real orchestral instruments.

Also on Sunday, you can catch Julie Andrews in all of her perfect nanny glory in the classic Disney movie Mary Poppins at the Spring Valley Studio Movie Grill. The movie is free, and you can get into the spirit of that “Just a Spoonful of Sugar” song with ice cream and treats brought right to your seat.

Careful though, swimsuit season is just around the corner.
