Monday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 25 Feb 2013 7:56 AM

Today in the roundup: Previews of a couple of musical experiences tonight, plus more on Ken Price at the Nasher.

CTA TBD

CATCHING UP WITH CANTUS: The nine-member choral group Cantus performs tonight at Bass Performance Hall. And if you plan to attend, you might need to fire up Google Translate to catch all the lyrics. That’s because in its history, the group has performed works in 30 languages. “In addition to German, French, Spanish, Italian and English, we’ve done Latvian, Estonian and other languages that are a little bit further afield,” tenor Aaron Humble tells dfw.com. Tonight’s program features work by Franz Schubert, Randall Thompson and contemporary composers.

A MUSICAL JOURNEY: Also tonight, the Bella Gaia World Tour drops by the Winspear Opera House. The show is a collaboration with NASA and features instrumental music paired with images from across the globe.Violinist Kenji Williams created the show, and he promises an out-of-this-world experience. “Three astronauts have said it makes them feel as if they’re back in space,” he tells theaterjones.com. “It has the message of our time: the relationship between humans and nature and how the dialogue has been lost. How we’re seeing a breakdown in earth systems. And it is all visualized with the most amazing animations made by NASA.”

PRICE CHECK: “Ken Price Sculpture: A Retrospective,” is currently taking over the Nasher Sculpture Center. If you read Jerome’s story about it from earlier this month, you’re probably intrigued. But if you want to know a little more about it before heading over, the folks at Art This Week spoke with the show’s curator,  Stephanie Barron. You can watch their conversation below:
