WORDS WITH LILY: Lily Tomlin brings her one-woman show to the Winspear Opera House on Sunday. It’s a safe bet that your favorite characters, from Edith Ann to Ernestine, will pop their heads up. But Tomlin says she uses those characters to get at larger ideas. “Humanity, the current state of things with the economy, politics and government, mental health and everything else,” she tells theaterjones.com. “Then filling that out with different characters to show the human experience, the human condition, as much as I can. Because from the beginning most everything of what I do is informed by that embrace of the species. It still can be edgy or satirical, it can be critical, but ultimately there’s something about it that’s embracing or forgiving or accepting.”

LONE STAR ARCHITECTURE: We all love a good list, right? Good, because architizer.com, with the help of the Texas Society of Architects, has put together a list of the 13 Texas Buildings to See in 2013. Each was built in the last few years and has significantly changed the landscape in some way. Among North Texas buildings making the list are the Perot Museum, the Cotillion Pavilion in Dallas and structures on Tarrant County College and Richland College campuses. UTD also gets a special shout out for its landscape architecture.
