MEET MAX: Tonight, you’ve got a chance to get to know Dallas Museum of Art director Maxwell Anderson. That’s because he’s the guest on CEO, which airs at 7:30 on KERA (Ch. 13, but you knew that). He’ll talk about the decision to make museum admission free and how he plans to further integrate technology into the visitor experience.
GET THERE EARLY: The Dallas Theater Center has announced a new program called Come Early. It’s basically the pre-game show for that night’s performance – a 30 minute informal lecture to get your mind right for the show. The first one will accompany the first performance of King Lear on Jan. 18. DTC’s Stay Late post-show chat will remain a part of the program.
DISSECTING DAVE: (Jerome, in his infinite helpfulness, sends along this note) A couple weeks ago, famed, ornery (and funny) art critic Dave Hickey announced his retirement from art criticism (although he actually still has several books in the works, and he’s contributed to the catalog for the major retrospective of Ken Price’s sculptures that’s coming to the Nasher next month). He said he’s sick of today’s money-driven, rich-collector art world. Hickey got his start in art (and in hating academia) here in Texas, studying at SMU then switching to TCU and finally starting a famous art gallery, A Clean Well-Lighted Place, in Austin after he went to UTA. Anyhoo, a couple weeks back, Glasstire ran a piece which blamed Hickey, in part, for our money-soaked art world. But this week, The Chronicle of Higher Education ran a lengthy profile/interview/defense of Hickey and his iconoclastic ideas on beauty. We report, you decide.
