Friday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 28 Dec 2012 7:56 AM

Today in the roundup: The top concerts of 2012, the year at Amphibian and good financials at the AT&T PAC.

CTA TBD

CONCERTS 2012: The music critics of the major dailies have weighed in on their favorite concerts of 2012. And they apparently went to a lot of shows, because there wasn’t a single one that made both lists. Mario Tarradell topped his list with Rammstein’s May appearance at the American Airlines Center. Meanwhile, Preston Jones was most impressed with Bruce Springsteen’s gig at SXSW (his favorite show he didn’t have to drive 200 miles to see was Rufus Wainwright at the Meyerson in October.)

ASSESSING AMPHIBIAN: As we noted yesterday, Amphibian Stage Productions had a solid 2012 – it’s The True Story of the Tragic Life and Triumphant Death of Julia Pastrana, the Ugliest Woman in the World was deemed the best play of the year by the critics at dfw.com. But life off stage at the company was pretty noteworthy as well. Co-founder Jonathan Fielding writes about how purchasing its own performance space has had a huge impact on the company on theaterjones.com.

IN THE BLACK: The AT&T Performing Arts Center has turned a profit for the first time after three years in business. It’s fiscal year ended in July, but the official numbers were just released Thursday. “We’ve finally hit a bit of a stride and now have the beginnings of a sustainable business plan, and that’s turned our fundraising around,” CEO Doug Curtis tells dallasnews.com.  “Donors want to be able to give to an organization doing well financially, and this news will add even more to it.”
