Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 27 Nov 2012 7:56 AM

Today in the roundup: Thinking practically in the Nasher v. Museum Tower debate, Fair Park’s year-round plans and details on Larry Hagman memorials.

CTA TBD

IN DEFENSE OF MUSEUM TOWER:It’s probably not too much of a stretch to say that public sentiment has been with the Nasher Sculpture Center in its battle over the Museum Tower glare. The Nasher was there first, so logic says the onus falls on the tower to make things right. But if it were that simple, a solution would have already been found. That’s why Mitchell Schnurman says it’s time to think practically. “It’s hard to see how the Nasher wins this fight,” he writes in a column on dallasnews.com. “A $200 million skyscraper is almost finished, after all. So instead of fixating on who’s wrong, how about focusing on what’s practical: retrofitting a 42-story tower or realigning the roof of the much smaller Nasher?”

ALL YEAR ROUND: When you think of Fair Park, you probably think of heading over there for the State Fair … and that’s it. Maybe for a Dallas Summer Musicals show if you’re theatrically inclined. But the powers that be over there are working to make the park more of a year-round attraction. Some of the ideas for how to do that – including an amusement park planned for this summer – are detailed at star-telegram.com.

LARRY HAGMAN MEMORIALS: The biggest television star in Texas history will receive a sendoff fit for a king. A pair of invitation-only memorials are planned for this week – one in Dallas, one in California. But don’t fret if your mailbox is empty. A public remembrance is planned for Sunday at Southfork Ranch. Details at dallasnews.com.
