Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 20 Nov 2012 7:37 AM

Today in the roundup: A plea to Museum Tower, a roundup of visual arts notes and Seth Meyers’ plea to Texas.

CTA TBD

WAR OF WORDS: On Sunday, John Eagle and Deedie Rose took to the DMN’s editorial page to take Museum Tower to task over the glare it’s casting on the Nasher Sculpture Center. “Museum Tower leaders’ suggestion that the Nasher redesign its building would be as if new neighbors built a house where the gutters overflowed onto your property and flooded it, making your home unusable. Then they tell you that you need to fix your drainage to accommodate the flooding that they have created,” they write before pushing for the louver solution. And for a nice primer on the whole backstory and where we are now, check out SMU professor Willard Spiegelman’s piece in The Wall Street Journal.

VISUAL ARTS BITS: Peter Simek checks in on “almost Relevant,” Keith Allyn Spencer’s exhibition featuring found objects at Oliver Francis Gallery. (Front Row) … Meanwhile, Casey Stranahan was won over by “Pretty Much Everything,” the Dallas Contemporary’s exhibition of Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s fashion portraits. (glasstire.com) … And Amon Carter Museum director Andrew Walker talks about how the museum collaborates with other institutions in his latest video blog. (cartermuseum.org)

QUOTABLE: “I wouldn’t want to look back on Friday Night Lights as a foreign film.”

Saturday Night Live‘s Seth Meyers, on why he doesn’t want Texas to secede, during his appearance Monday night at UTA’s Mavericks Speakers Series. There’s more from his stop through town at dfw.com.
