42 ST. AND W. LANCASTER: One of Broadway’s all-time classics – 42nd Street – is running through the weekend at Casa Mañana in Fort Worth. And from reading the reviews, it sounds as if this classic holds up. “For those fans of classic theatrical dance, this is a show that’s certain to excite,” Kris Notebook writes on theaterjones.com. “And Casa spares no expense enlisting a cast full of talented tappers to really give the show what it needs.” Punch Shaw was also pleased. “These hoofers generate so many sparks, they light up the show like a four-alarm blaze. The dancing is so good, in fact, that it equals the quality of the singing,” he writes on dfw.com.

MONEY FOR ARTS: Today, a new group charged with protecting funding for the arts in Dallas will meet for the first time. The Sustainability Task Force is a piece of the Cultural Affairs Commission, which advises the city’s Office of Cultural Affairs. The task force’s charge is to figure out ways to protect the OCA from future city budget cuts. Some ideas of how it might do that are over at dallasobserver.com.
