A NOTABLE DEATH: Isiah Sheffer, a founder of Manhattan’s Symphony Space, died on Friday at the age of 76. So why are we mentioning this? Because Sheffer has a major connection to North Texas. He’s also the creator of Selected Shorts, the series of short stories read on the air, which you may have heard on KERA. And in creating the series, he inspired Kay Cattarulla, who worked at Symphony Space. Cattarulla later moved to Dallas to create Arts & Letters Live at the Dallas Museum of Art.

A NOTABLE BIRTHDAY: Fort Worth’s Sid Richardson Museum turns 30 this year. The  institution focuses on Western art, with Remington, Russell, et al. on display. To celebrate its birthday, the museum is hosting “Violent Motion: Frederic Remington’s Artistry In Bronze,” a display of Remington’s sculptures. In her dfw.com review, Gaile Robinson calls the show a “must see.” “Remington’s sculptures do not look like a frozen moment in time; they have a fluid, cinematic quality. It is as if a snippet of film is playing. As your eye travels the sculpture, the movement you see in the front has changed by the time your eye travels to the horse’s rear,” she writes.
