Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 24 Oct 2012 7:23 AM

Today in the roundup: Local music bits, how sports will fit into the Perot Museum and more raves for ‘Moby-Dick.’

CTA TBD

LOCAL MUSIC BITS: Preston Jones guides you through a bumper crop of new fall albums by locals, including Somebody’s Darling and Vanessa Peters. (dfw.com) … KXT’s Joe Kozera talks about how he got into radio and what you can expect from the station going forward. (DC9 at Night) … Speaking of KXT, did you know about your chance to win a very special Hall Pass?

ENGAGING THE BASE: The Perot Museum of Nature and Science knows that tailoring its programming to the local landscape is the surest way to make sure people actually come. To that end, the museum has made space for a Sports Hall, a permanent exhibition. And to help fill that hall, the museum asked a few local hall of famers to stop by on Tuesday to film videos. Video of Roger Staubach, Joe Nieuwendyk and Nancy Lieberman filming said videos is at dallasnews.com.

ALL HAIL ‘MOBY’: Jake Heggie’s Moby-Dick was generally well-received when it opened at the Winspear way back in 2010. The opera is a co-production with San Diego Opera and San Francisco Opera. Now the folks by the bay are finally getting a chance to check it out. And they like it. In fact, the critics at sfgate.com, sfcv.org and The Huffington Post are in a tight race to see who liked it the most.
