State of the Arts: The Dallas Arts District is Complete. What’s Next?

With the completion and opening of the Dallas City Performance Hall and the upcoming opening of Klyde Warren Park, the Dallas Arts District, an “extremely unique neighborhood destined to be a global sensation” according to outgoing executive director and former city councilperson Veletta Forsythe Lill, is complete. Tonight we’ll begin the fourth season of State of the Arts with an exploration of the finished neighborhood and a preview of its future. Our guests will include Lill, who will step down from the Dallas Arts District next month, Maria Muñoz-Blanco, Director of the Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs and Mark Banta, President of Klyde Warren Park.

What will the addition of another district stage at the Dallas City Performance Hall mean for area performing arts organizations both large and small? Will the opening of Klyde Warren Park help encourage walkability and overcome public use issues in the area? How will the completion of these new public spaces change they way the neighborhood gets along and plans performances and events?

We’ll discuss these issues and a lot more this evening (Tuesday, October 2nd) at the Dallas Museum of Art’s Horchow Auditorium. Details and a link for reservations are here. I hope you can make it. It’s going to be a great season.
