TICKLED PINK: Dallas Children’s Theater has invited one of its favorite characters to open its new season. In Pinkalicious The Musical, Pinkalicious goes a little overboard on the pink cupcakes, forcing her to look at some healthier food options. (This is DCT, so, of course, lessons will be learned.) Emily Lockhart, who plays the title character, is getting raves. “Lockhart infuses the part with all of the energy, dance and singing chops that made her a popular actress in the area,” Cathy O’Neal writes on theaterjones.com. “Her petite size and youthful, expressive face make it easy to believe she is a little girl and not an adult pretending to be a child.” Meanwhile, Nancy Churnin points out the irony of selling really good pink cupcakes at intermission in her dallasnews.com review. Catch it through Oct. 21.

‘HI, I’M …’: When we talk about the social clubs affiliated with arts organizations, typically it’s in reference to their mission to provide the organization with younger patrons. But the members get something out of the deal, too – particularly those who might be new to town. That’s the subject of a dfw.com story, which looks into some of the arts social clubs in Fort Worth.

SLAVERY IN ART: The African American Museum in Fair Park has opened “Rising Up: Hale Woodruff’s Murals From Talladega College,” which depict slavery on a large scale. The museum is one of 10 institutions to host the show, which will be up through February. And as dallasnews.com reports, it marks a homecoming for Woodruff, whose work was exhibited here in 1936 during the Texas Centennial.
