Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 26 Sep 2012 6:55 AM

Today in the roundup: Inside the mind of Matthew Posey, local music bits and a big, big birthday.

CTA TBD

THAT’S MATT: You know Matthew Posey as the king of avant garde theater in Dallas. The man behind the Ochre House in Fair Park runs an anything-goes shop, where music, dancing and puppets are all in the mix. Seems like he’d be a wacky guy to hang out with, which is what Peter Simek thought. But after reading his recent D Magazine profile – in which Posey discusses filterless cigarettes, the Devil and the transient nature of Ochre House –  you might discover that there’s plenty of depth to go with the weird.

MUSIC BITS: The Fort Worth Music Festival takes over Cowtown this weekend. Luckily, that means plenty of food trucks. (dfw.com) … Speaking of Fort Worth, the city is getting another live music venue – Whiskey Girl Saloon. (fwweekly.com) … And speaking of whiskey, Denton folk rocker Andrew Delaney offers of a free mp3 of his “Whiskey and Pills.” (DC9 at Night).

A BIG BIRTHDAY: Big Tex turns the big 6-0 this year. The 52-foot-tall State Fair greeter is probably the most photographed element of the fair. So to celebrate Tex’s birthday, dallasnews.com has compiled a slideshow of Tex through the years.
