Hear All of St. Vincent-David Byrne's 'Love This Giant' on NPR

by Jerome Weeks 4 Sep 2012 10:18 AM

The twosome’s coming to McFarlin in October, the album’s coming next week, but you can hear it all on NPR.

Over the weekend, NPR’s First Listen put up the entire album-collaboration between Talking Head David Byrne and Dallas’ own Annie Clark — Love This Giant drops Sept. 11 on the Todo Mundo label, but you can pre-order here. Anyone who has been listening obsessively to St. Vincent’s “Marrow”  — like at the KXT Summer Cut in June, where she crowd-surfed while playing guitar — has heard the Heads influence, so this combo is a natural. It’s been much-anticipated since word first came out on  their collaboration.  And it’s a combo you’ll be able to catch live this October 7 at McFarlin Auditorium.

In fact, Love This Giant is the liveliest, tightest-best Byrne has sounded in a long time (NPR’s Stephen Thompson agrees), while numbers like “Ice Age” excitingly echo the stutter-percussion propulsion of “Marrow.”And then, there’s the horn section.

Enjoy all the tracks here.
