How about The Ink Spots and their contribution, “I Don’t Want To Set The World On Fire”. The blackest black and can’t make it through the night? This will help you get there. I think.

I have played that track a lot over the years, but thats cuz I like it so much, I will see when the last time was and if it was long ago enough I will spin it, but maybe I will find some other ink spots instead

A couple more suggestions. Johanna Grussner, a beautiful voice from Estonia, who sings in both Swedish and English. And the Swedish band Kin, which one just needs to listen to, not bad at all, just unusual.

The kin album available in the US is Somliga gor with trasiga skor, Which
Translates to some people go with tattered shoes.

  • Kyle

Thanks for the Tom Russell. As long as you have been a Texan I am surprised you have never heard of him as he has a stong following around here. He is an amazing writer, in the same league as Guy Clark and Townes, and been prolific for 30 years. Great songs about gritty lives. If you want an amaziing song cycle about California in the 50s and 60s with spoken word and music listen to Hot Walker all the way through. Best old song is Homestead Steel. – Kyle
