Tuesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 21 Aug 2012 7:00 AM

Today in the roundup: Discussing new theater works, the report from Bayreuth and DJing for Dirk.

CTA TBD

NEW WORKS PANEL: Say you’re a playwright. How do you go about getting your work seen by a national audience? That topic and others will be the subject of a Sept. 17 panel discussion. The panel is being put together by TeCo and the Dramatists Guild of America. Tre Garrett of Jubilee Theatre, Tina Parker of Kitchen Dog Theater and Tom Parr IV of Nouveau 47 Theatre will serve as panelists; Mark Lowry of Theater Jones will moderate. All of the newly announced details are over at theaterjones.com.

OPERA OVERSEAS: The Bayreuth Wagner Festival in Germany is on the bucket list of any serious operagoer.  So what to do if you can’t swing a ticket to Bavaria? I’d suggest following Scott Cantrell’s coverage on dallasnews.com. He’s reviewing the shows and blogging like crazy. It’s the next best thing to being there.

QUOTABLE: “The whole thing was just super cool. Like, just to see Dirk and Steve Nash just laughing and palling around was awesome. And he’d, like, look up at the booth and give us a nod or a finger-point when we were playing a song that was his jam. It was just a huge experience for me.”

-DJ Sober, a.k.a. Will Rhoten, on DJing Dirk Nowitzki’s wedding. He talks more about the experience with centraltrak.com.
