The Jazz Standards: A Guide to the Repertoire, the new reference work by North Texas writer/historian/jazz musician Ted Gioia, has been getting some nice ink. We interviewed Gioia about the book soon after it came out — we wanted to know how a song becomes a standard. And in the past month, the book has been getting hailed by reviewers — in the Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal and the Kansas City Star.
From Dennis Drabelle in the Post: “Gioia closes, fittingly, with one last Cole Porter entry: “You’d Be So Nice to Come Home To.” “The Jazz Standards” itself is awfully nice to dip into.”
