Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 1 Aug 2012 7:44 AM

Today in the roundup: Maxwell Anderson speaks about the Da Vinici, Dallas collectors in rare company and a few season announcements.

CTA TBD

Da VINCI AT THE DMA: On Monday, we passed along confirmation of one of the worst-kept secrets in the Arts District – that the Dalllas Museum of Art is looking into acquiring a painting recently re-attributed to Leonardo da Vinci. Art in America published the report, but DMA director Maxwell Anderson declined to comment. He did, however, speak with Michael Granberry of dallasnews.com. “Our approach has been to say that the picture is here,” Anderson said of the work, valued in the neighborhood of $200 million. “It’s being actively considered for acquisition. But beyond that, there really isn’t much to say.”

RAREFIED COMPANY: Back in February, I did a little profile of Alden Pinnell, the Dallas art collector who also opperates The Power Station near Deep Ellum. And it looks as if Pinnell is getting noticed beyond our burg. He and his wife, Janelle, have made Modern Painters‘ list of the 50 most interesting collectors under 50. (h/t: Front Row)

THE SEASON AHEAD: A couple of local theaters have announced the lineups of their 2012-13 seasons. Plano’s PFamily Arts will kick things off Sept. 27 with Side Show, the true-story of conjoined twins. And Rover Dramawerks will open Oct. 25 with Completely Hollywood, a satire on the movies. Both companies’ schedules are up at theaterjones.com.
