You may recall The National Performance Network. The organization committed to fostering new work in the performing and visual arts around the country. Members range from Opera America to the South Dallas Cultural Center. Jerome covered their 25th annual conference in Dallas late in 2010.
Now comes word that Vicki Meek, manager of the South Dallas Cultural Center (and occasional guest blogger for Art&Seek) has been elected to head the NPN’s national board. Meek was instrumental in bringing the NPN conference to Dallas. She will continue at the SDCC while she wears this new hat (and presumably, also continues her work as an artist and arts educator.)
Here’s Jerome’s Think interview with MK Wegmann, President and CEO of NPN, prior to the conference.
And here’s a little spot with more on Vicki (fair warning, she’s also chatting up Art&Seek).
More info about Meek”s new appointment follows after the jump.
The South Dallas Cultural Center (SDCC) has reached yet another milestone. The National Performance Network (NPN) has elected Vicki Meek, the SDCC manager, as the new Chairperson of the NPN board of directors. The National Performance Network is an arts organization that supports artists in the creation and touring of contemporary performing and visual arts. Over the years the South Dallas Community and art lovers throughout North Texas have been privy to national and international performances as a result of this partnership.
“I am so honored to be elected Chair of NPN. This 26 year old network represents some of the most dedicated organizations presenting and producing innovative artists working in the Americas today. The SDCC has been a partner since 2004 and we’ve had the opportunity to bring new and challenging work to our audiences. I look forward to continuing the hard work of my predecessor and the stellar NPN staff.” said Meek.
Vicki, follows in the footsteps of the former Chair, Dr. Maria Rosario Jackson. “I am delighted that Vicki has been elected. She has vision, intellect and enthusiasm. Her commitment to cultural equity, social justice as well as her experience and perspective as an arts leader and artist, are immensely important to NPN. The organization, without a doubt, will continue its upward trajectory with her leadership.” said Maria Jackson
MK Wegmann, the President and CEO of the National Performance Network is very excited to be working with Vicki in her new role. “Vicki and the South Dallas Cultural Center have provided significant support to NPN, especially as hosts of our 25th Anniversary Annual Meeting in Dallas. I’m looking forward to the next two years with her board leadership.”
The South Dallas Cultural Center is a program of the City of Dallas Office of Cultural Affairs (OCA) “The NPN partnership with the SDCC has been a welcomed addition to the programming presented by the OCA and has brought to the city an exciting array of national artists whose work would not have been seen in Dallas were it not for Vicki’s quest for original and innovative works. The upcoming season at the SDCC will definitely be a must-see!” said Maria Munoz-Blanco, Director of Office Of Cultural Affairs.
