Wednesday Morning Roundup

by Stephen Becker 18 Jul 2012 8:00 AM

Today in the roundup: Checking in on CentralTrak, more looking at old buildings and the world’s largest pie fight.

CTA TBD

1+1: “SHEET/ROCK,” the current show at CentralTrak, is a collaborative installation between Cassandra Emswiler and Sally Glass. In it, the pair display found and altered objects, videos, sculpture and photographs. Many of the pieces are works-in-progress, which made them all the more interesting to Peter Simek. “The lab-like setting encourages a zeroing-in on the individual objects,” he writes on Front Row. “It’s research as process, nothing quite yet art, each little curiosity suggesting the burgeoning of an artistic idea.” Check it out through Aug. 18.

DALLAS THEN AND NOW: We’ve been doing a lot of looking back lately at old Dallas buildings (lots of that in yesterday’s roundup). The Dallas Museum of Art has also been reliving the city’s past with the exhibition “Flower of the Prairie: George Grosz’s Impressions of Dallas, 1952,” which remembers the German artist’s trip to the city and subsequent work inspired by it 60 years ago. To give you a taste, the museum has posted a series of vintage photos of buildings around town and corresponding present-day photos on its Uncrated Blog.

IN YOUR FACE!: If we told you that next week the biggest pie fight in history will be taking place in Dallas and that you can participate, would you say, “Awesome!”? Well, you’re welcome.
