by Stephen Becker 12 Jul 2012 3:05 PM

Christopher Kelly leaves the Star-Telegram after 12 years with the paper.

CTA TBD

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram laid off 12 staff members this week, including movie critic Christopher Kelly. Kelly had been at the paper for 12 years. In an e-mail to friends and colleagues sent this afternoon, Kelly said he will continue to write for Texas Monthly and the Texas Tribune. In addition to his duties at the paper, Kelly also programmed “Modern Cinema: Great Movies You Haven’t Heard of … Yet,” which played the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth each September.

“The Star-Telegram’s generous severance package is affording me something I’ve been craving for a long time, which is the opportunity to step away from the 24-7 news coverage cycle for awhile and breathe a little bit,” he said in the e-mail. His last day at the paper will be July 20.
