Congratulations to Andrew Newton of Arlington, the winner of the Flickr Photo of the Week contest!

CTA TBD

Congratulations to Andrew Newton of Arlington, the winner of the Flickr Photo of the Week contest! This is Andrew’s first win. He follows last week’s winner, Elena Bertolo.

If you would like to participate in the Flickr Photo of the Week contest, all you need to do is upload your photo to our Flickr group page. It’s fine to submit a photo you took earlier than the current week, but we are hoping that the contest will inspire you to go out and shoot something fantastic this week to share with Art&Seek users. If the picture you take involves a facet of the arts, even better. The contest week will run from Monday to Sunday, and the Art&Seek staff will pick a winner on Monday afternoon. We’ll notify the winner through FlickrMail (so be sure to check those inboxes) and ask you to fill out a short survey to tell us a little more about yourself and the photo you took. We’ll post the winners’ photo on Wednesday.

Now, more from Andrew:

Title of photo: Competing Against Ourselves
Equipment: Canon 1D mk4
Tell us more about your photo: My friend, in the picture, runs a dance studio in New Orleans and thought it would be fun to take some pictures she could use for her website. I wanted to do something interesting and a little bit different, so we decided to use her practice studio as a backdrop and give it a more informal and gritty feel, playing on the theme of the lack of glitz involved with constant training. I set up continuous lighting instead of strobes to take advantage of the 10 frames a second functionality of the Canon 1D mk4. The foreground lights are just to give it a little style; that is until one of the dancers kicked one into a light stand and shattered it to bits. We stopped using them at that point.
