BOC and Lou Reed in one weekend. Cool!
Lou Reed’s “Last Shot” is a painfully frank tribute to losing the lifestyle that so many of us lived when we were Immortal, Infertile, and Infallible. That’s right, we had the three “I”s going for us. That what does not kill us..

      Here goes:
      Alice Cooper, Shoe Salesman:

      “Spoonful” by Howlin’ Wolf
(my stupid phone erases this text when I go to copy links)

She Came in Through the Bathroom Window -or- I Want You (She’s So Heavy) by The Beatles

The Bomber or Wolf (may be too long) by Joe Walsh/James Gang

Great show as usual! I’ve got a few suggestions for next time should any of them amuse you. A local guitarist, Jordan Martin, has written a piece I really dig called “Bleak Migration.” You should be able to find it here. http://jordanmartin.me/blog/?p=232

I’d also love to hear John Zorn’s “Punk China Doll” from Naked City or perhaps “Vamos” from Surfer Rosa by the Pixies.

Hey Paul, it’d be awesome if you could play some Diamanda Galás. She’s got an incredible voice, though very aggressive. Not sure what you would consider too loud for radio. Also have you ever played This Heat? One of my favorite tracks is Makeshift Swahili, but again, that might be too hardcore punk for your playlist.

    • Anonymous

I love Diamanda, just gotta find the right track. I love This Heat, havent played them in a while. Its pretty intense to be sure.

If you like “Open Strings” Middle Eastern Recordings, you might really enjoy:

      Moein – ‘Moama’
      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_VZpvoUYo4&feature=channel_video_title

Moein (pronounced ‘Moe-Een’) has been the Persian Culture’s most popular singer for the past 20 years. He sings mostly romantic songs and some up-beat dance songs. Moein lives in LA and is Blind since birth. What God took away from his eye sight, He gave to his voice. The above song is heavy on the strings.

I renewed my membership so I can hear more of the Paul Slavens show. Maybe some oil sheiks sitting in the Burj Khalifa will match my contribution. A request..

    great show Paul
    try http://www.amazon.com/Chestnut-Mare/dp/B00136LKTK
    by the Byrds

“Chestnut Mare” was intended to be used during a scene in which the play’s eponymous hero attempts to catch and tame a wild horse, a scene that had featured a deer in Ibsen’s original
play PEER GYNT so we go from Norway and a reindeer to somewhere in the West and a
    Chestnut Mare works for me.

I second The Beatles request. Either or would be splendid. (or Tomorrow Never Knows)

Indeed! The drums on that track are psychodelic!

Father John Misty, fantastic show in Austin at Mohawk last weekend, last night of the tour . Night before at Sons of Hermann Hall. Check out the video for Hollywood Forever Cemetery Sings, with Aubrey Plaza of Parks and Rec. The whole album is very intriguing. Hope I didn’t miss the requested song, was watching the finale of Game of Thrones.

Wow! Funny, you should play ‘Ring of Fire’. I was looking on line for Johnny Cash’s ‘Ring Of Fire’ and saw tons of others versions. Biggest surprise, was a cover version by Adam Lambert. You don’t have to play it, but check it it out. It was very good.

Probably a better Studio cut off the same album.
