by Gail Sachson 3 May 2012 1:12 PM

Glass2012 is organizing a series of events highlighting the medium over the next several months. Spot some glass and you may win an Art&Seek t-shirt.

CTA TBD

Tell us where you can spot this glass art and win an Art&Seek T-shirt. Read on for details.

Gail Sachson, guest blogger, owns Ask Me About Art, offering lectures, tours, program planning and consultation. She is a Commissioner of Cultural Affairs and a member of the Public Art Committee, and for the sake of transparency,  confesses to be a member of the Glass2012 committee.

UPDATE: We have a winner. And an answer to the mystery.

This year is the 50th anniversary of the Studio Glass Movement in America. To celebrate the medium and  applaud those who tackle the science, the heat, the hazards and…the shock of a shattered work, a committee has been formed, headed by Patricia Meadows, with funding support provided by City Place Company and West Village and with in-kind support from the MAC, to create a three part plan to spot glass and show glass around Dallas beginning this weekend .

All  galleries, artists, programs and tour information is listed on the website, www.glass2012dallas.org.

Beginning May 5th, running concurrently with the awe-inspiring Dale Chihuly glass  installation at the Dallas Arboretum (May 5- November 5th), twelve prestigious local galleries will be showcasing works by ten nationally recognized regional and U.S. Master Glass artists through June 9th. Part II, A Master Glass Invitational will follow on June 16th at RO2 Gallery, in which the ten artists will each invite two emerging talents from the region.

The third part of  GLASS 2012 , Educational Programming, involves YOU !– Lectures, panel discussions ,demonstrations  and of course…parties are scheduled.. More educational programs will be added through November.

And when you are not listening and learning, you can spot glass works all over town by following a self-guided , drive-by map the committee has provided on their website. Much of the work cited is part of the Dallas Public Art collection, featured at libraries, fire Stations and city buildings, but there are many, many more eye-catching glass works sponsored by private entities.

But we need your help to grow the list. We need  glass spotters. No windex required. As you drive around town and dart in and out of buildings, email us or let us know on Art&Seek’s Facebook page where you spot art glass.

And.. perhaps you will spot our mystery glass work ,”Glass Falls”, pictured above.  If you can identify where this piece is, e-mail [email protected] with “glass” in the subject line and your answer. We’ll select a winner from the correct answers and send them an Art&Seek t-shirt.

The location  and winner to be revealed tomorrow.
