Afternoon Delight is a daily diversion for when you’re just back from lunch, but not quite ready to get back to work. Check back Monday at 1 p.m. for another one.
To get the kind of rolling, flowing, uncut shots that you see in this video, you’d normally have to use a Steadicam — a kind of gyroscope-mounted camera essentially strapped to a cameraman, whose unsteady, running movements would not be translated to the recorded image. But a Steadicam wouldn’t let you get this video’s crane-and-dolly overhead angles. But a crane-and-dolly rig couldn’t do the running-from-one-room-and-right-off-the-balcony tracking shots because eventually, the track that the dolly needs to glide on would become visible onscreen — or it would run out and the camera crew would fall over the edge and die.
So, what the Omstudios people have done is develop the Red Camera drone. That’s right, a flying, hovering camera. It’ll save the lives of thousands of innocent camera crews!
And to demonstrate what it can do, they naturally staged an incredible ninja fight. Who wouldn’t? Enjoy.
And oh, there’s not a problem with your computer. The video is silent.
